Published: Sun, Jan 14, 2018, 12:53PM CST

We would like to encourage all of our students and parents to get out and walk to school Wednesday, January 17th to show support of our Healthy Zone School! Walk to School Wednesday is the first and third Wednesday of every month.

Staff members will be meeting student walkers at the following locations:

  • Corner of Sandy Lake and Winding Hollow
  • Corner of Sandy Lake and Old Coppell Road
  • Corner of Parkway and Graham

You are welcome to drop students off to join the teachers at these locations as we walk to school at 7:20 a.m.

Leaving cars at home saves gas, saves money, improves our air quality, and provides exercise!

Flu Information and Reminders
Published: Sun, Jan 14, 2018, 12:53PM CST

Coppell Independent School District Health Services

We are seeing influenza, or “flu” in our area. Cases have begun earlier than usual and are expected to increase as we continue into the influenza season. As in past influenza seasons, the health and safety of all students and staff are a priority for our school community. Since flu can spread easily from person to person, we need your help to prevent cases of flu in our schools. It is important for all staff, students, and families to take the following precautions at this time:

  • Monitor the health of your child and all other household members closely by checking for fever and other flu symptoms every morning. Symptoms of flu usually include fever (greater than 100°F) with cough or sore throat, and sometimes runny nose, body aches, headache, vomiting or diarrhea.
  • Students and staff with symptoms of the flu should stay at home. Staying at home when sick is the best way to keep flu from spreading to other students and staff. As much as possible, those that are sick should be cared for by a single designated caregiver, kept in a separate room in the house and have limited contact with other household members who are not sick. Children with symptoms of flu should not return to school until they no longer have fever for at least 24 hours without the use of fever-reducing medications. A doctor’s note is NOT required for a student to return to school. Notifying the school of any absence and indicating when flu-like symptoms are present, is very helpful in assisting in the monitoring of influenza prevalence in our schools and area.
  • Recognize whether your child or any household member is at high risk for severe illness from flu. People at higher risk for flu complications include children under the age of 5 years, pregnant women, people of any age who have chronic medical conditions (such as asthma, diabetes, cancer or heart disease), and people age 65 years and older. If any high risk person or their household members become sick with flu-like symptoms, please contact your healthcare provider as soon as possible to ask for advice.
  • Remind all household members and students to wash their hands thoroughly with soap and water, or use hand sanitizer regularly. Continue to teach children to cover their cough with their elbow or sleeve, and to avoid touching their face.
  • Have all eligible household members vaccinated for the flu!

Though CISD is required to send an automatic email after three absences in a four-week period, the district understands that recovery from the flu and other illnesses often takes several days. Keeping a sick child at home prevents the spread of illness, in the school community, and allows the child opportunity to rest and recover. For more information on health attendance click here.

For more information about flu, call 1-800-CDC-INFO or visit www.flu.gov. Dallas County influenza resources and updates are available at: http://www.dallascounty.org/hhs

Picture Retake Day
Published: Sun, Jan 7, 2018, 02:18PM CST

LifeTouch will be at CCE on Wednesday, January 10th for retakes.

Who participates in picture retakes?
1. If your child joined CCE after October 17th
2. If your child was absent on picture day
3. If you didn’t like how the first picture turned out and you’d prefer your child to take a new portrait

…whatever the reason, if your child is participating in retakes make sure they are dressed in their best Tuesday morning.

It might be good idea to let your child’s teacher know you want them to have their photo taken. Sometimes the kiddos (particularly younger ones) get confused about whether or not they are supposed to get their picture retaken. Notifying the teacher will help ensure your expectations are met.

Questions about portrait retakes? Email cceyearbook@yahoo.com.

Missing Photos - Please Help
Published: Sun, Dec 10, 2017, 09:18AM CST

Teachers and Parents, have you taken photos at CCE events over the last couple of months? There have been a number of field trips, performances and many other fun events.

The yearbook cannot be created without your help. In addition to the photos mentioned, we could also use more class photos (with and/or without teachers) as well as all girls and all boys class photos. The holiday party coming up this week is another great photo opportunity!

Can’t remember what photos you have submitted versus not? If that’s the case feel free to upload whatever you’ve got. We’d rather have your photos than not.

Click on Submit Photos 2017-2018 and then click on the appropriate link or links to submit your CCE pictures.

Thank you in advance for doing your part to contribute photos. Together we’re capturing memories that will last a lifetime.

Published: Sun, Dec 3, 2017, 12:07PM CST

Coppell ISD is embarking on a new district Strategic Design initiative to help CISD create its next set of priorities from which all efforts will be aligned. Since the district is nearing the end of its last strategic plan, Pinnacle 2020, this effort is timely and will give the district a renewed vision for the upcoming years.

Help provide input on this effort by attending one of CISD’s remaining Strategic Design Education Summits:

  • Monday, Dec. 4th
    Coppell’s William T. Cozby Public Library from 12 to 2 p.m.
  • Wednesday, Dec. 6th
    New Tech High @Coppell from 6 to 8 p.m.

Coppell ISD stakeholders, including parents, students, staff and the Coppell community, are invited to attend one of the summits, which will prepare the audience to consider their values and vision for education. Additional phases of the Strategic Design process include an online questionnaire, one-on-one interviews, and district and market research.

Details about the phases of the district’s Strategic Design process can be found by clicking here.
